Our client is seeking a Director of Quality & Risk Management to oversee the activities and resources of the Quality Management department, ensuring that both departmental and organizational objectives are met. This role also involves overseeing the facility’s risk management activities, such as insurance programs, risk data analysis, identifying gaps, and preparing reports. The Director will lead efforts to improve risk management strategies, ensure regulatory compliance, and support the continuous improvement of patient care quality and safety initiatives. The position also includes policy formulation, accreditation surveys, and coordination with the corporate risk management department on claims management.

MINIMUM EDUCATION

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
  • Preferred: Master’s degree in Nursing, Business, or Healthcare-related field
  • Preferred Certification: Certification in Risk Management through a nationally recognized program meeting industry standards

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Critical thinking, decisive judgment, and the ability to work independently
  • Ability to manage stress and respond appropriately in challenging situations
  • Strong computer skills with an understanding of: Process Review, Root Cause Analysis, Department of Health, and Joint Commission requirements
  • Certification Requirement: Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association within 90 days of employment, if not current upon hire
  • License: Current KY or Multi-State RN licensure; CPHQ certification required within one year of employment

MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Preferred: 5 years of healthcare experience as an RN, with 2 years in quality/clinical nursing leadership
  • Preferred: 5 years in healthcare risk management and accreditation, with additional experience in the insurance industry considered beneficial
  • Preferred: 3 years of direct patient care experience, including some in critical care

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develops and implements departmental goals, plans, and standards consistent with clinical, administrative, legal, and ethical requirements
  • Directs departmental operations, ensuring patient care quality, service levels, and compliance with objectives
  • Monitors and manages staffing activities, including hiring, evaluations, and continuing education initiatives
  • Prepares, manages, and evaluates departmental budgets, ensuring compliance with allocated funding
  • Coordinates and directs internal/external audits
  • Integrates evidence-based practices into clinical protocols and daily operations
  • Leads risk management education and training initiatives
  • Provides leadership and counsel in risk management and patient safety strategies
  • Oversees occurrence reporting and conducts trend analysis to inform risk management strategies
  • Collaborates with leadership to address patient grievances and quality improvement efforts
  • Develops programs that foster a culture of safety for patients, visitors, and staff
  • Leads accreditation initiatives, ensuring compliance with regulatory agencies, including The Joint Commission, CMS, and others
  • Works with interdisciplinary teams to measure, assess, and improve processes and outcomes across departments
