Special Counsel - Employment Law
About the Role
This is a primarily remote position focused on handling employment litigation and administrative matters for a wide range of clients, including those with Employment Practices Liability Insurance (EPLI). You'll lead litigation strategy, manage client communications, and oversee a team of attorneys and support staff.
This role is ideal for an experienced employment litigator who wants a meaningful practice without the pressure of business development or non-billable hour requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage single-plaintiff employment litigation and administrative agency matters
- Draft pleadings, legal memoranda, motions, and client communications
- Conduct and defend depositions
- Represent clients in hearings, mediations, and trials
- Supervise and mentor junior attorneys and support staff
- Collaborate with partners and firm leadership on case strategy and execution
- Occasionally support class actions, PAGA claims, or other complex matters
Required Qualifications
- JD from an ABA-accredited law school
- Minimum 7+ years of experience in employment law and litigation
- Active bar membership (in good standing) in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- Strong legal writing, analytical, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently in a fully remote setting
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience at a law firm
- Experience handling EPLI matters
- Admission to the California bar is a plus
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary range: $185,000 – $200,000, determined by experience and selected billable hours target
