Transactional Copyright Associate
This role is ideal for an attorney with 4 to 6 years of post-law school experience, looking to expand their impact in the music and entertainment space. You’ll be deeply involved in negotiating and drafting agreements, managing IP-related transactions, and advising on copyright matters for high-profile clients in the music industry.
The position offers a chance to work with a highly collaborative and nationally recognized team, with direct exposure to top-tier artists, labels, publishers, and media companies.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of agreements, including licensing, acquisition, distribution, and publishing contracts
- Lead and manage complex music industry transactions from inception to execution
- Provide strategic legal advice on copyright matters, including ownership, transfer, and enforcement
- Counsel clients on the purchase and sale of music and other IP-related assets
- Stay up to date on developments in copyright and entertainment law to ensure compliance and strategic advantage
- Collaborate with internal teams across departments and with clients' business and legal teams
- Work independently on projects, while also contributing to team-driven matters
Required Qualifications
- JD from an ABA-accredited law school
- 4–6 years of relevant legal experience in copyright and IP transactions (lockstep salary based strictly on years post-graduation)
- Deep knowledge of U.S. copyright law, with hands-on experience in licensing, IP transactions, and contract negotiation
- Demonstrated experience working with clients in the music or entertainment industry
- Strong drafting, communication, and analytical skills
- Admitted to the bar and in good standing in New York or Massachusetts, or eligible for admission
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience at a law firm or in-house within the music/entertainment sector
- Familiarity with recording, publishing, synchronization, or digital distribution deals
- Experience working directly with labels, publishers, DSPs, or other music-related entities
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $245,000 – $340,000, strictly based on post-law school graduation year (4–6 years only)
