Our client, a prestigious Am Law 100 law firm, is seeking a Competitive Intelligence Analyst to support strategic business development and research initiatives. This role is based in New York City with a hybrid schedule and provides the opportunity to deliver high-impact insights to firm leadership and attorneys across global offices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct detailed research and analysis on companies, markets, and individuals using tools such as Lexis, Capital IQ, PitchBook, Mergermarket, Lex Machina, and D&B Hoovers
- Prepare customized business and litigation intelligence for client pitches, RFPs, and strategic planning
- Create executive and company backgrounders for client meetings and lateral recruiting efforts
- Analyze court dockets and litigation data to identify trends and support firm positioning
- Provide competitor and market insights to support lateral hiring and business development strategy
- Track CI activities and report on outcomes and trends using internal tracking tools
- Recommend and assess new research tools and technologies
- Train BD and marketing professionals on research resources and best practices
- Collaborate cross-functionally with departments including marketing, lateral recruiting, and practice groups
- Support ad hoc research projects and assist with additional tasks, including occasional overtime
Skills & Proficiencies:
- Proficient in business and legal research tools and databases
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to synthesize complex data
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading abilities
- Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Highly organized; able to manage multiple projects with attention to deadlines and detail
- Strong client service orientation; works well independently and in team settings
- Familiarity with law firm operations, legal terminology, and marketing concepts
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required (preferred majors include Business, Law, or Library/Information Science)
- At least 1 year of experience in a competitive intelligence or research role within a legal or professional services environment
- 3+ years of experience in business development, research, or a related field in a law firm or similar professional services firm
