Analyst, Competitive Intelligence (Business Development)
Our client, a top-ranked Am Law 100 law firm, is seeking a talented Analyst, Competitive Intelligence to support its business development and research efforts.
This position plays a key role in delivering actionable insights on clients, prospects, competitors, and lateral candidates to stakeholders across the firm’s global offices.
Salary range: $70,000 to $87,000 a year
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct in-depth research on clients, prospects, industries, and competitors using tools such as Lexis, Capital IQ, PitchBook, Mergermarket, Lex Machina, and D&B Hoovers
Deliver business and litigation intelligence to support pitches, proposals, and strategic initiatives
Prepare detailed biographical and company background reports for client meetings and lateral recruiting
Analyze court dockets and legal data to identify trends and support firm positioning
Support lateral hiring and business development strategies with market insights and competitive research
Maintain CI activity metrics and internal tracking systems
Evaluate and recommend new research tools and technologies to improve workflow
Provide training on research tools and best practices to business development and marketing teams
Collaborate with cross-functional teams and assist with special projects as needed
Occasional overtime may be required
Skills and Competencies:
Strong research and analysis skills, especially in legal and business intelligence platforms
Ability to synthesize complex data into clear, actionable insights
Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading abilities
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines
Strong client service orientation and ability to work independently
Foundational understanding of law firm operations, legal concepts, and marketing strategies
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required (preferred focus in business, law, or research disciplines)
Minimum 1+ years of experience in competitive intelligence within a law firm or professional services environment
Minimum 3+ years of experience in business development, research, or similar roles
