Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with pediatric critical care medicine physicians and hospitalists from McGovern Medical School at UTHealth to provide 24-hour, in-house, and on-call coverage for patients requiring intensive care.
  • Utilize state-of-the-art techniques and services at the Children’s Heart Institute to offer innovative treatment methods and specialized services for patients with complex cardiac problems.
  • Perform echocardiogram tests on patients, including preparing patients for the test, explaining procedures, positioning patients, selecting appropriate imaging techniques, and ensuring the technical quality of images.
  • Enter and monitor patient data, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills and escalate issues as needed.
  • Perform quality assurance on equipment and assist with accreditation applications.
  • Identify and report accidents, complaints, or equipment malfunctions to the Supervisor/Manager.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities and take emergency calls within the department.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and standards, ensuring safe care to patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Promote professional growth and development by meeting education and skills competency requirements, serving as a preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited school of Cardiac Sonography Technology, Radiologic Technology, or Sonography Technology (preferred).
  • License/Certification:
    • Certified in Basic or Advanced Life Support (required).
    • One of the following required:
      • Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) by Cardiovascular Credentialing International
      • Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS) by Cardiovascular Credentialing International
      • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) by American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS)
  • Experience/Knowledge/Skills:
    • Ability to lift and/or maneuver patients with assistance.
    • Commitment to customer service and patient care.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
